The picture above was used as the cover for the February 2007 issue of
"Greater Guide Southwest Michigan Magazine".
After class Chris Wilkes took time to spar one on one with Nick.
The two pictures above show Chris attacking and Nick blocking.
Here you see Nick kicking and Chris blocking while Mom and big brother (Tony) look on. Tony is also an excellent karate fighter, however, he no longer competes. Instead Tony now uses his karate training in his stuntman work. The right picture shows Chris kicking and Nick, who knew better than to try and block one of Chris's powerfull kicks, side steps.
Time to teach the little man a lesson. Chris body slams Nick to the floor. Nick's response "OUCH!!!!!"
The picture above shows the beginning of the
Chris Cox / Nick Intgroen fight.
Chris is the taller fighter on the left and Nick on the right
is awarded the first point of the fight from Sensei Ohara.
At the November 21st, 2003 tournament in Kalamazoo, Michigan Nick (age 15) bumped up a division so he could have the opportunity to fight 18 year old Chris Cox again. On the two previous tournaments where Nick bumped up and fought Chris, Nick took second. This year, however, Nick's training paid off. He beat Chris and the other competitors as well, winning Nick another GOLD medal! Keep up the great work Nick!
Shown above are a few of the Gold Medals that Nick has won.
The picture above shows Nick after training with Brian (Buzz) Smith for two weeks at his home in Travers City, Michigan. Brian (Buzz) Smith trains in Maharlika Kuntaw
(A Kung Fu which originated in the Philippines).
Nick was 15 at the time.
Nick's sensei (instructor) Al Doorlag has been training Nick in Shotokan Karate.
Sensei Doorlag's training has helped Nick accumulate over 100 medals
and trophies in the few years that he has been in competition.
Who knows what the future will hold for him.
Time will tell!
