Vanishing Tip Pen

The Vanishing Tip Pen
By Antony Gerard
Order #G-810R
Cost: $15.00

Effect: The magician removes a pen from his/her pocket, the sort of pen that would remind you of a standard black and white "BIC" pen. This pen looks like and can be written with just like a real pen, however, it can be caused to vanish in a dollar bill, napkin, or your closed fist.

The Vanishing Tip-Pen can be vanished in a Vernet-Tip, handkerchief, napkin or dollar bill. It can be used as a production pen, or could be use in a multiplying pens routine. You can do a broken and restored pen, a color changing pen, pen to magic wand, or a standard sized pen to a mini pen while using a Vernet-Tip as the depository for the gaffed pen. If you perform Dave Williamson's Strike Vanish found in "Williamson's Wonders", try doing the strike vanish with a balled up dollar bill. Cause the bill to vanish and then reappear. Finish by rolling the bill around the pen and cause the pen to vanish.

History: The concept for the Vanishing Tip-Pen came to me after witnessing a John Cornelius lecture in 1979. In his lecture, John performed and taught his multiplying and vanishing cigarettes routine. The material that John used in his routine is the same as is used in the Vanishing Tip-Pen. Over the years I sold the Vanishing Tip-Pen in my magic shop but did not show it at conventions nor did I advertise it in the magic trade magazines. I did not want to sell large quantities because I used it in my performances and wanted to keep it somewhat exclusive.

After demonstrating the Vanishing Tip-Pen at the 2006 Fechter's Finger Flicking Frolic convention in New York and having quite a few on the attendees present ask where they could get one. I decided to make this item available to the magic community. In August of 2006 I brought two dozen of the Vanishing Tip-Pen sets to the Abbott Magic Get-Together and sold out in less then one day. The Vanishing Tip-Pen is a great utility effect for any magic performance and can be used in close-up, parlor, or stage performances.

On August 28th, 2006 I e-mailed John Cornelius asking if he recalled where I may have seen him lecture in 1979. In John's return e-mail to me he indicated that he did not recall the exact date but did offer the following information. John said: "Nice to hear from you. I have been using the heat shrink tubing idea since before 1979. In fact at my lectures I mentioned that it could be made into a pen." My response e-mail to John said "If I had recalled you mentioning the pen idea in your lecture, I would never have sold the vanishing chalk or pen in my magic shop. The name that I gave the effect was the "Vanishing Tip-Pen". If you want me to stop selling the "Vanishing Tip-Pen" just say so, or if it is OK to continue selling them I would continue mentioning you in the credits." John's return e-mail stated: Dear Antony: Thanks for being so honest. I wouldn't mind if you sold them through your shop. Thanks, John Cornelius.

So as it stands I can continue selling and taking orders for the Vanishing Tip-Pen through my magic shop (The Timid Rabbit Magic And Masquerade Shop) and web site (www.gerardenterprises.com), however, I will not be advertising this item in the trade magazines, I will not be selling them at conventions, and they will not be available to other distributors. That is not without the written permission of John Cornelius.

Take care and take cards
