The Funny Side Of Magic
The Funny Side Of Magic is a compilation of over seventy (70) amusing
magic related stories, anecdotes, and little known magical facts
that were collected over the past thirty (30) years.
My favorite thing to do at a magic convention has always been to seek out one of the older magicians, strike up a conversation and, instead of asking them to show me another card or coin effect, I would ask them to tell me a magic-related
story or two. I first started to do this with my good friend Little Johnny Jones. I found myself at his house weekly listening to stories until late into the night. I, later, would repeat the story sessions with many other magic greats like John Calvert, Karrell Fox, Stewart James, Roy Kissel, Sid Lorraine,
Jay Marshall, Bruce Posgate, and many others.
I still prefer a good new magic story over a sleight or routine.
This book is not meant to be a fact-filled history book. It is a combination of fact, fiction, parody and imagination. The stories were told to me as fact by many great, and not so great, magicians. Whether they are all true or not does not concern me. My main reason for writing this book was to bring a smile to your face and preserve those interesting bits of history that were so freely shared
with me. If I have succeeded in doing so, then my goal has been achieved.
And if you the reader retells the stories to others, I assume the goals of the original story tellers will have been met also. I will attempt to relate the stories exactly as they were told to me. So sit back and let me tell you about “The Funny Side of Magic”.
June Horowitz had this to say about
"The Funny Side Of Magic".
"I just wanted you to know that I thought your book, The Funny Side Of Magic, one of the best written and original to appear in a long time.
Don't make us wait for a sequel. It's so good to hear
about these people we've met and admired."
Sincerely,
June Horowitz
